Chapter 2.76 HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
Sec. 2.76.030 Definitions. "Gender" means the actual
or perceived appearance, expression or identity of a person with
respect to masculinity and femininity; and "Same sex"
means occupying the same social and identity roles as another
with respect to being male female. (Ord. 1182, Amended, 02/24/1997)

The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC)
led the effort to pass the bill, working closely with lead sponsor
Chuck Turner (D-7th District). The bill adds "gender identity
or expression" to Boston's anti-discrimination law, which
covers employment, housing, public accommodations, and education.
