We strongly believe discrimination must not be tolerated in our society. Furthermore we believe that all persons should be protected against discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodation and other areas. The proposed amendment to the Chicago Human Rights Ordinance and Fair Housing Ordinance would provide protection to those who face discrimination on the basis of their actual or perceived gender identity and characteristics. We support the inclusion of "gender identity" in these ordinances, and give our organizational endorsement to the Hansen/Ocasio/Schulter Gender Identity Amendment.
